8 Questions Brides Ask About Setting up a Wedding Registry

In theory, setting up a registry is simple. You decide on one or several stores, create a registry online or in person, select various items, and get the word out to your guests. In practice, things are a little more complicated -- but only a little!

With that said, here's the real deal on setting up your wedding registry and getting the word out without offending your guests. Remember that retailers can be an enormous help to both you and your guests. At the same time, you can't take everything they say at face value.

Q: Where should I register?
A: Chances are, if you're getting married in your own town, you already know where "everyone goes" to set up and shop from a registry. If not, and guests are flying in from far away, pick from some bride-tested standbys likely to be present almost anywhere. Macy's has a great reputation for registries, as does Williams-Sonoma, Bed Bath & Beyond and other retailers.

Before you choose your stores, be sure to stop by a wedding forum and get feedback from brides who have been there, done that. Store policies vary quite dramatically, ranging from the easy-does-it (who'll give you cash back for returns off the registry, no questions asked) to the extremely restrictive (who'll only let you exchange for another item *in that department*, requires a receipt for each item, and so on). You'll want to know about these policies and the store's overall reputation for bridal friendliness before you go in, or returns and exchanges could become a big hassle.

Q: I have a wide range of interests. How many stores should I register at?
A: Two to three stores is fairly typical. They don't have to be typical stores, though. If you're a wine drinker, and live in a state where it's legal to ship wine, set up a registry at one of the great online wine merchants.

Q: When should I register?
A: Although close family members may pressure you to start earlier, it's helpful to wait three to six months before the wedding. Not only are the vast majority of gifts bought within a day or so of the shower or ceremony itself, stores turn over merchandise so rapidly that any gifts you select earlier may be discontinued.

Q: What if I already have all the kitchen appliances and throw pillows I need?
A: Consider putting together a honeymoon registry instead, so guests can contribute toward a special meal or snorkeling trip or a night's lodging during your honeymoon.

Q: When I signed up at Store X, they gave me a bunch of attractive registry cards to enclose with my wedding invitations. Should I do it, or is that tacky?
A: Sorry, but the consensus is almost universal -- it's uncouth to include any mention of gifts in your invitations. You can, however, tuck those cards into shower invitations. Perhaps the best solution is to include a note in your invitations that reads, "Please see our wedding web site at www.xyz.com" and place your registry information there.

Q: How many gifts should I register for? I don't want to look demanding.
A: Typically, you'll want to select two or three items per guest. That gives people room to choose instead of locking them into something they don't enjoy buying, or worse, forcing them to guess what else you might like, giving birth to the "second yogurt maker" type of gift.

If you have many guests, you can avoid creating a 16-page monstrosity for them to print out by breaking up your registry over several stores.At the end of the day, "more is more." Many retailers offer discounts on those items you registered for but didn't receive. Many stores also retain your registry for at least 12 months after the wedding. You may find it's best to register for everything that you plan to buy, even if you don't expect to get it as a gift; you can then purchase your selections for 10% or 20% off after the ceremony. Many brides also find friends and family tapping registries for gift buying ideas for birthdays and other holidays!

Q: What price range should I stick with when selecting items?
A: Generally, you should register for things you really feel you want or need, without worrying too much about the price. Some guests enjoy picking up a number of items in the low price range, and sometimes guests will group together to purchase bigger-ticket items.

Q: I've set up my registry just fine, but now I'm addicted to checking it online. How can I stop?
A: Sorry, there's no known antidote for registry-checking addiction, though it's a widespread phenomenon. Counting to ten, taking deep breaths or distracting yourself with double-fudge ice cream might be worth a shot.

Women have been considered as an underprivileged sector of the human society throughout the history. It has been a male dominated world out there for women in every aspect excepting the household chores. But, in the recent past, women have gained more power and privilege than ever before. But then, many believe that the women’s involvement in various fields like the engineering, medicine, sciences, business and law is not up to the maximum and women need more opportunity in the above fields so that they can be equal to their men counterparts. Business and professional women scholarships are provided to women who would like to study for either an undergraduate program or a graduate degree provided she submits relevant details seeking financial assistance for doing so. The eligibility criteria for receiving this scholarship is that the women should be more than 25 years of age. Nearly 200 such scholarships are provided for women under this category.

Pennsylvania outstanding young woman scholarships are provided exclusively for female students residing in Pennsylvania. Apart from this qualification, they should not have married and should be U.S citizens to avail this scholarship for women. Society of women engineer’s scholarships are awarded to female students who would like to study computer science in their engineering degree.

Yahoo (Overture) Search Suggestion Tool is Finally Buried!

The Yahoo (previously Overture) search suggestion tool has been dead for quite some time. However, the URL remained alive. Finally it has been given a silent burial by Yahoo.

The link at http://inventory.overture.com/ now redirects to the Yahoo Small Business website.

The Overture based keyword suggestion tool in Good Keywords has not been working ever since the Overture tool went dead. Now that it is fully buried we will be updating Good Keywords and replacing the keyword suggestion tool in it with a basic version derived from our Keyword Strategy Studio.

Anyway, the Overture Suggestion Tool had lost most of it's usability long time ago. That is why we started the development of Keyword Strategy Studio. It is best suited for modern keyword research that combines market and competition analysis.

Google Keyword Tool and Search Volume Counts

It has been an interesting experience reading the reactions and comments about the changes at Google Keyword Tool.


Here are a couple of common questions and some comments...

Why is Google keyword volume count so different from the counts at some of the third party tools?

Of course it will be different. None of the third party tools ever had access to Google search database. The third party tools were based on data from some of the meta crawlers (a tiny percentage of the actual search volume) and local ISPs. Google is the most widely used search engine. Their data is much more likely to be relevant and useful.

Google says there are 1800 searches per month for this phrase. But I am ranked #1 for that phrase and I don't see that many searches!

Any one who searched is not going to always click the top ranked result. That will depend on what shows up in the search result title, the displayed snippet, what the other results show, what the user is actually looking for and so on.

Also, the counts displayed on Google tool are based on a number of factors like the geographical location, the keyword match type (phrase, exact, broad), etc.

The Google results are inflated by a factor of "N"

Any analysis for checking the accuracy requires that you know exactly what percentage of users will click on the top ranked result. You can't base such an analysis on one person checking his AdWord account for a few keywords and comparing the click throughs with the Google search volume counts.

Over time there will be a better understanding of how accurate the Google search counts are, but 1 or 2 days is certainly not enough to make an authoritative statement. There is no evidence at this point to prove that Google is inflating the results. As already pointed out, the search counts are based on factors like the user location, type of keyword match etc.

One of the most common problems on the Internet is the willingness of people to just cut and paste whatever they read into their own blogs and web pages. No one bothers to check if the information they are spreading is true or even reasonable. If a well known blogger posts an opinion you can expect to see the same repeated all over the net as a "fact"!

Creating the Blog and Posts
First of all, create a new blog. You can do this either on your existing account or on a new one. You can choose whichever template you want, since they'll all take the same modifications. The example here uses the white Minima template.

Now post each of your chapters as its own post. Then collect the permalinks for each one, so you have a page to link to for each chapter. The easiest way to find the permlink for a post is to go to the Edit Posts screen and click on the View link next to the post. Finally, make one more entry. This one will be the Table of Contents, so you'll just use it to provide the permalinks to each of your other posts. You can use our hyperlink button feature if you need help making the links.

Optional: The example book has the links displayed in a table, just to make it a bit prettier (the border you see around it all is part of the post, not the template). If you want to do this, you can format it however you like, or copy our table code. Just replace the LINK and CHAPTER_TITLE with the appropriate information, and repeat that line as necessasry.
